Student Success
Students as leaders
We have a Student Council that actively develop new ideas and support in the whole management and leadership of the sixth form. You too can play an active part in the running of your sixth form by becoming involved.
Our students are the voice of the sixth form and develop comments and suggestions that help make our community a better place. Students can take on roles as student ambassadors supporting subject areas and open evenings or consultation evenings.
Students continue to develop their leadership skills by mentoring younger students across the college or as sport leaders or academic leaders in primary schools.
We work on charity events, social events, student voice and a number of our students even work with school governors and represent the college in meetings. Students also develop their own clubs and organisations with the debating group being one of our newest additions.
University and Careers
Hull York Medical School
We have a proud history of supporting and training students who successfully carry on to study medicine at university. Our support includes training links with Hull York Medical School, work experience opportunities, one-to-one guidance on your application with ex-students and support for your medical entry exams.
Oxford, Cambridge and Russell Group applications
As an academic sixth form, we are used to seeing many applications for the most prestigious universities. We can support you with your application, preparations for entrance examinations and interview techniques. Each year we see a significant number of students successful in their applications for the above universities.
UCAS Support
Our programme for university applications is detailed and highly successful. Starting with your Y11 application process, we work very hard to consider all of your university aspirations. We begin by considering your initial sixth form timetable and provide additional enrichment qualifications and experiences that provide you the best opportunity of achieving a place at your favoured university.
You are guided through the process by our experienced sixth form teachers and sixth form progress leader. Our UCAS system is highly regarded and achieves excellent results. This is why all of our students who apply to university always achieve their place (five years running).
Alumni group
We have an honoured history and tradition dating back for decades. We are proud of all of our students’ achievements.
Careers guidance and literature
Students are faced with some life-changing decisions when deciding upon their options. We can support your initial careers guidance through school and provide specialist information on your post-16 opportunities. Our staff are highly trained and very knowledgeable. Below are some examples of what you can expect:
- One-to-one support and preparation to build confidence and esteem
- Information on financial support
- Wide ranging activities to support differing career progression routes
- Support from a range of external agencies
- Access to enterprise enrichment and courses
- Links with local employers
- A range of activities from guest speakers, mentors, coaches and university visits
We are always looking to make new links with businesses. If you feel that your organisation or business can support our students in their futures, please contact the sixth form.
