Further funding for schools' Active Travel missions

Young travel ambassadors from the region are celebrating after securing funding to help further their plans to promote Active Travel in their school communities.

The money will be used to fund prizes and rewards to recognise those who make the switch to healthier and more environmentally friendly means of commuting to and from school. Car sharing and the concept of “park and stride”, which involves driving part-way and walking the rest of the journey, are among the initiatives being encouraged.

A Holderness Academy spokesperson said: “We are delighted to report that our learners were awarded £450 to support their ongoing work in increasing active travel within the school community. “The judging panel praised the Holderness team for their ‘excellent collaborative work with a bike charity and the local authority’, recognising their commitment to creating a more sustainable travel culture. This success marks a significant step forward in the school’s efforts to promote environmentally friendly travel choices among students and staff. We look forward to seeing how our learners continue to affect change in the future. Emily Cherry said: “You have done something brilliant that will benefit the future and yourselves.”
